It is becoming increasingly common to be an active owner in the domain of social and environmental sustainability. Active ownership can take many forms, such as engaging in corporate dialogue, filing shareholder resolutions, divesting shares, or filing a law suit.
This raises questions about which strategies are most effective at achieving sought-after change, and what the factors might be that make the various strategies successful.
This report published in February 2020 summarizes the key academic research on this topic from the past ten years. It can be used both to guide shareholders and to help form a future research agenda.
