AID ATLAS - TRANSFORMING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF DEVELOPMENT FINANCE

Aid Atlas is an online platform that helps users to more easily understand how development finance is being provided, where it is going, and what it is being used for. It is an Stockholm Environment Institute tool that was launched in a Beta version in December 2019.

Every year, a global development finance (or “aid”) budget of US$ 250 billion is allocated to developing countries. Development finance flows via a complex architecture of developed countries, multilateral funds, development banks, UN and other agencies to “recipient” developing countries. This architecture makes it difficult to get a clear picture of where funding is coming from, where it is going, what it is being used for, and what impacts it is having.

Aid Atlas seeks to transform our understanding of the way development finance is working by providing interactive visualisations of development finance commitments and disbursements that shows which countries are providing development finance to whom.

It makes the data that donors report in the OECD’s Creditor Reporting System easily accessible and allows users to tailor the analysis based on what they’re looking for and get deeper into the data.
