WHAT WE DO
The Stockholm Sustainable Finance Centre (SSFC) aimed to accelerate and promote the shift in capital investments required to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global climate targets.
SSFC ended in December 2022 and transformed into the SEI Finance for Sustainable Development Programme, running 2023-2025.

SEI Finance for Sustainable Development Programme
SSFC was a unique collaboration between Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). This brought together a leading research university in financial markets and economics, and a highly ranked institute working on environmental impact and broader sustainable development issues.
SSFC collaborated with the SSE on training programs in sustainable finance and on specific research projects. SSFC was hosted by SEI and the core of the SSFC’s research and engagement work was performed by SEI.
SSFC delivered sustainability and sustainable finance expertise, practice driven research, education, and policy engagement on sustainability, economics, and finance.

Our Mission
During 2018-2022, our mission was to help accelerate the allocation of capital to truly sustainable economic activities required to deliver the SDGs and global climate targets. We did so by conducting solutions-oriented research that critically examines the financial landscape and provides expertise on the key sustainability transitions our economies must undertake. We had a special focus on advancing the sustainability agenda for developing countries.
SSFC built capacity through training and engagement. We engaged with relevant change agents to provide sustainability expertise to the financial sector and guidance to policymakers on policies needed for this transition.

Our research
SSFC performed practice driven research on sustainability, economics, and finance. Our research focused on: mobilizing finance for achieving the SDGs in developing countries, mobilizing investment and finance for transitions to net-zero, raising the sustainability credentials and impact of ‘sustainable finance’ practice, and enabling financial actors to combat deforestation & biodiversity loss.
The core of the research were performed by SEI researchers; however, we collaborated on research projects with various national and international partners.
